Real or AI?

Is the Tesla flying car real?

Short answer: the demonstration was real, filmed live in front of a crowd. Many clips in your feed are not. Here is how to tell them apart.

Motion follows Tesla's original video

Two different things share one name

The real demonstration

At the Roadster unveiling on 15 October 2026, livestreamed from the SpaceX site in McGregor, Texas, a prototype climbed a curved wall, held on by suction fans, then jumped and flipped on cold-gas thrusters. Tesla posted the runs on X on 16 October. How it works.

AI remakes

Clips that put other cars, bikes, animals or people into the stunt, or invent new ones (rooftop jumps, city flights). They are made with AI video tools, including this site. Good ones say so.

What the official videos show

Our own read of Tesla’s two demonstration posts, frame by frame at 2 frames a second.

  1. Wall run

The car climbs a curved white wall until it is nearly vertical, goes over the top upside down and lands in a white smoke cloud.

  2. Thrusters

On a second run it peels off the wall, hovers on blue-white jets and sinks to the ground.

  3. Kickflip

Head-on, it leaps over a parked Semi and a car, rotating like a skateboard kickflip.

  4. Replays

Side and overhead angles repeat the flips, with red and pink smoke on landing.

Five ways to spot an AI remake

  • 1

Find the source. Real footage traces back to Tesla’s posts or someone at the event; remakes rarely link anything.

  • 2

Watch the background. In the real runs the parked cars, the Semi and the wall stay exactly the same shape; AI scenery melts or shifts.

  • 3

Count the wheels and badges. AI cars lose a wheel, merge doors or show unreadable logos for a frame or two.

  • 4

Look at the smoke. Real smoke drifts and thins; AI smoke often loops or pops in and out.

  • 5

Check the label. TikTok, YouTube and Instagram show "AI-generated" tags; honest creators add them.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is the Tesla flying car video real?

The ones Tesla posted, yes. They show a live demonstration witnessed by a crowd and the press. Edited remakes and new scenes are a different matter.

Is it AI or Grok?

No. Speculation that Tesla used AI or Grok to make the footage was answered by people who were there and filmed it themselves.

Can the Tesla Roadster really fly?

It jumps and flips using cold-gas thrusters for a few seconds; it does not fly like an aircraft. What it can and cannot do.

Is the flying Tesla street legal?

Tesla says the top "Rocket" version is not approved for public roads. Details.

Can I make my own version?

Yes, from one photo of yourself in the studio. It is labeled as AI and does not pretend to be Tesla footage.
